LAS VEGAS (AP) - Four members of an anti-government group have been arrested on charges that include money laundering, tax evasion and weapons possession [Ed: this article later states the 'weapons possession' is ONE unregistered machine gun], federal prosecutors said Friday.
Authorities said the four men are members of the Sovereign Movement, a group that attempts to overthrow the government and defy authority with "paper terrorism." The arrests in Las Vegas on Thursday capped a three-year investigation into the group's activities led by the Nevada Joint Terrorism Task Force, U.S. Attorney for Nevada Greg Brower said.
A grand jury indictment in federal court in Las Vegas names Samuel Davis, 54, of Council, Idaho; Shawn Rice, 46, of Seligman, Ariz.; Harold Call, 67, of Las Vegas; and Jan Lindsey, of Henderson.
Davis and Rice are accused of laundering roughly $1.3 million for undercover FBI agents, who described the money as loot from a bank fraud scheme. Davis and Rice are charged with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and 30 counts of money laundering. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine on each count.
Davis was described by prosecutors as a national leader in the Sovereign Movement, whose members believe government licenses, taxes and currency are invalid. Rice described himself as a lawyer and rabbi devoted to anti-government teaching, authorities said.

Two of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were veterans of the Bosnian Muslim Jihad. Most gruesome atrocities such as beheadings of Christians, burning down churches with Christians in them and other brutalities have been documented by these Bosnian fighters and the video footage is for sale in many mosques across Bosnia.
Abdurrahman and other Bosnian Muslim Jihad fighters are under pressure by the Western governments who demand that the Bosnian Muslim government deport them to their countries of birth.
Over 5,000 Bosnian Muslim rallied Saturday against the government attempts to deport another of the Bosnian Muslim beloved Jihad fighters, Syrian born Imad al-Husini, known as Abu Hamza.
The arrested 15 members of a Wahhabi terror group have been charged by the Serbian authorities for planning terror attacks on various locations in the capital Belgrade that were to include bombings of the US Embassy in Serbia.
According to the indictment, the arrested Muslims have engaged in terror planning and the evidence includes confiscated weapons, various communication intercepts between the members inside Serbia, Bosnia and Saudi Arabia and detailed maps with specific markings for potential targets.
That's 10,001 deadly Islamic terrorist attacks. At least one innocent life was cut short in each and every one of these acts; in some cases, dozens or even hundreds, were murdered.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations. After 9/11, I kept an eye on them and was quite disgusted by their lack of moral perspective. They complain about issues that affect Muslims which are quite trivial, on average, compared to what is happening in the name of their religion. They do occasionally denounce terror in a general, somewhat ambiguous, sense but there is an obvious lack of passion. Their real interest is themselves.

An al-Qaeda operative serving life in prison for his role in the bombing of American embassies in Africa contends that his rights are being violated by U.S. jailers who have denied him access to Arabic publications and religious books, limited his mail privileges, and no longer allow him to use a Walkman. Mohamed Al-Owhali, 32, claims that his incarceration at the "supermax" federal prison in Florence, Colorado has left him so severely depressed that he stopped eating for months...
Jamal has been held in a maximum-security jail since his arrest 17 months ago, with most of his detention spent in solitary confinement. He said the ordeal was trying.
"It was very ,very, very, very bad. It was a lot to hold ... if I didn't have my faith, I couldn't hold it," he said, before getting behind the wheel of a minivan and driving away.
Jamal was released on $100,000 bond, nearly three quarters of which was donated by members of the Muslim community, the Toronto Star reports.
He must remain under the supervision of six sureties, not use the Internet, and stay inside his home unless attending court, his lawyer's office and Friday prayer, the newspaper reports.
Reasons for the release cannot be reported due to a publication ban.
Farooq said his client is only looking at the possibility of 10 years in prison, if he's convicted.
"So our position is the quicker we move this forward, the quicker we can exonerate him and clear his name and he can move on with his life."
Jamal is the third adult suspect to be granted bail in the case. He was arrested in June 2006, along with 17 other suspects, four of them youths.
Police allege the accused, mostly Muslim men in their 20s, plotted to blow up buildings and behead the prime minister. Authorities also accuse the men of taking part in training activities in a cottage country town about 150 kilometres north of Toronto.
In September, the Crown filed a direct indictment, halting a preliminary hearing and pushing the case straight to trial.
As a result, the charges were stayed against the men and new charges were laid. The move allowed those in custody to apply for bail a second time.
Last month, Steven Chand, who has been identified as wanting to behead Prime Minister Stephen Harper, was denied bail for the second time.
Three youths charged in the case have had their charges against them stayed. The trial for the fourth youth, who is free on bail, is expected to begin in March.
Lawyers for the adult suspects say it could be years before their trial gets underway.
ORONO, Maine - A University of Maine student alleges her former professor offered extra credit to class members if they burned the American flag or the U.S. Constitution or were arrested defending free speech.
On the first day of class, associate professor Paul Grosswiler offered the credit to members of his History of Mass Communications class, according to sophomore Rebekah McDade. Disturbed by the comment, McDade dropped the class and intends to take the course again next semester with a different professor.
"I was offended," McDade said Friday. "I come from a family of military men and women, and the flag and Constitution are really important symbols to me because of my family background."
In an e-mail responding to a request for comment from the Bangor Daily News on Friday, Grosswiler said he thought McDade misunderstood the class discussion, which was intended to elicit thought about the First Amendment. He said he has held this same discussion for years without incident.
The Professor encouraged the students by reminding them that burning an American flag was not illegal. In defending the course assignment, the Professor further responded:
In his e-mail Friday, Grosswiler, who is a former BDN employee, explained that he refers to provocative examples, such as flag burning, to demonstrate the courage necessary to support free expression.
"If they don’t tolerate thought that they hate, they don’t believe in the First Amendment," he wrote.
Since the whole thing is about the First Amendment and free speech, no doubt this Professor would also extend that extra credit to those who flush a Qur'an or draw a picture of Muhammad, right? After all, neither of those two things are illegal. And the courage that would take is worthy of commendation. I'd challenge the students to use these examples to express free speech and then demand extra credit.
Remember your outrage in hearing of the Serbian aggression against ethnic Albanians during the Kosovo War? I certainly do. Now I have regrets. PRISTINA, Serbia-Police in Kosovo said they had arrested an ethnic Albanian Tuesday accused of murdering 14 Serb villagers in one of the bloodiest ethnic attacks during U.N. administration of the province.
The man was arrested at his home in eastern Kosovo close to where the 14 were shot dead in a field while bringing in the wheat harvest in July 1999, soon after the province came under United Nations and NATO control.
Police spokesman Veton Elshani said U.N. special police units arrested a suspect charged with committing war crimes, but gave no further details. He was identified by media as Mazllum Bytyqi.
A British patrol in 1999 found the victims of the massacre after hearing automatic weapon fire near the town of Gracko, 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of the capital, Pristina.
The attack was blamed on ethnic Albanian militants seeking revenge for years of persecution by Serb authorities and highlighted the animosity between the majority ethnic Albanians and minority Serbs that still persists.
We would be better served to learn from history, rather than trying to write it.

MOSUL, Iraq (AFP) - The kidnappers of two Roman Catholic priests in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul have withdrawn an agreement for their release, a Christian group said on Tuesday.
Father Pius Affas and Father Mazen Ishoa, both Iraqis, were kidnapped in Mosul on Saturday by an unknown group, and Pope Benedict XVI subsequently made an appeal for their release.
"It appears that agreement was reached for their release, leading to reports of their having been released," said a statement from Middle East Concern. "However, the kidnappers subsequently withdrew from the agreement and demanded a larger ransom."
(BTW, notice how Agence France-Presse (AFP) carefully avoids mentioning the religion of the kidnappers. Wouldn't want to put Islam in a bad light, now would we?)
Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind of the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, claims he converted from Islam to Christianity, Scott Pelley reports in a story that brings viewers inside the secretive "Supermax" prison where he is being held. Pelley also reports that some 900 force feedings were performed on other al-Qaeda terrorists who went on repeated hunger strikes to protest conditions at the Colorado top-security federal prison. The 60 MINUTES segment will be broadcast Sunday Oct. 14 (7:30-9:00 PM, ET/7:00-9:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Foreigners caught with drugs or accused other crimes rarely receive any cut in sentences, which are usually decades, if not the death penalty. But these are Muslims imprisoned in a Muslim country. The fact they helped murder 220 innocent people is irrelevant.

Just days after the U.S. Government moved to list Iran's Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization, Iranian parliament responded in a most childish fashion - by adding the Central Intelligence Agency and the United States Military to their own terrorist watch list.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's parliament on Saturday approved a nonbinding resolution labeling the CIA and the U.S. Army "terrorist organizations," in apparent response to a Senate resolution seeking to give a similar designation to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The hard-line dominated parliament cited U.S. involvement in dropping nuclear bombs in Japan in World War II, using depleted uranium munitions in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq, supporting the killings of Palestinians by Israel, bombing and killing Iraqi civilians, and torturing terror suspects in prisons.
Muslim jihadist leaders interviewed for a new book were ecstatic about statements from television talk host Rosie O'Donnell about the war in Iraq and the global war on terror, agreeing with her outspoken views.
Some even invited her on a "fact finding mission" to the Middle East.
"I agree with what this O'Donnell says. ...We welcome Rosie O'Donnell to stay among us and to get to know the truth from being here, like many American peace activists are doing," said Ala Senakreh, West Bank chief of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terrorist organization.
